New Little Roy Roots Release..
Veteran artist Little Roy teams up with London based Pharos records for his latest CD Children of the Most High..
Recorded at Pan Lemos' Century 21 Studio in Britannia Row London, this is a well executed Roots LP..Steeped in the classical traditions of reggae music..all tracks played live by the cream of Londons reggae musicians..its a solid set.
Reworkings of some Little Roy classics..Bongo Nyah originally cut for Lloyd Matador Daley back in 1969..and Christopher Columbus stand alongside a selection of covers including one of Delano Stewarts classic Stay a little bit Longer, and a little oddly a reworking of George Harrisons flower power anthem My Sweet Lord..
We cant help but feel on listening to this new LP that with no new boundaries being stretched and not much brand new material its a little pedestrian at times We cant help but feel that somewhere theres a really great set waiting to come from Little Roy..This isnt it.
Having said this Pharos are to be applauded every step of the way in being one of the very few independant studio/label owners left standing in the UK..They have a new compilation out now too with some killers on it from Gregory Isaacs and Fred Locks amongst others..For those who missed it the Amharics Descendants LP is a fine set too..
