As with all LionVibes reviews we try to be impartial and direct. As we see it seen.
This can be difficult especially when in our opinion the music fails to convince our heart mind and ears. The paltry sales of reggae music have recently plumbed to new all time lows recently, so low in fact that recently released retail figures of Queen Ificas great new LP defy belief. However its called reality and from our days selling the real thing in Brixton market in the late 90s we recall only too well how difficult it was then to sell stand alone CDs at 12 pounds.
How long can it continue? Can it recover ? Does anyone care ? Well the answer is surely time will tell but the omens are not great !!
This brings us to a new artist and CD which reached our ears this week.Ras Zacchari will be largely unknown save those who bought his recent 45s lifted from his debut LP entitled Herbs Man.All self written and entirely self produced its a conventional roots album covering all the well trodden themes of ganja, tribulation, and holding firm. Most of the musicians are unknown to us but sound convincing enough and its been mixed by the great Fatta and Bulby at Anchor.
Our favorite is actually a Luciano duet called River Jordan on a cool Mannaseh built one drop that first surfaced last year on a Roots Garden 45 with Jah Mali.
All in all its a creditable effort that deserves to get Mr Zacchari further recognition.
Will it save Reggae Music? No. But it will help to fan the breeze to keep the fire burning even though it sometimes feels like the fire gone out.
